Glen Burnie Town Center Revitalization

We are proud to be leading several important placemaking initiatives aimed at revitalizing the Glen Burnie Town Center (GBTC) and strengthening connections with the surrounding communities.

Keep reading to discover how we’re working to transform GBTC into a vibrant destination where residents, businesses, and visitors can come together and thrive!

The Glen Burnie Better Plaza

In partnership with the Better Block Foundation, in January 2025 we launched the Glen Burnie Better Plaza – a community-focused placemaking project that would temporarily transform the Glen Burnie Town Center into a vibrant community gathering space in the summer of 2025.

After gathering community feedback, Better Block and AAEDC brought the reimagined Plaza to life on June 4, 5, and 6 with the help of dozens of residents and organizations who lent their hands for a few hours of unboxing, building, painting, and assembling.

On June 6 and 7, AAEDC and Better Block hosted a two-day festival showcasing local businesses, entertainment, and hands-on activities to introduce the refreshed plaza to the community. The event kicked off with a special community ceremony where County Executive Steuart Pittman, District 2 County Councilwoman Allison Pickard, AAEDC President & CEO Amy Gowan, and other local leaders shared remarks on the significance of GBTC before taking symbolic final hammer strokes to mark the Glen Burnie Better Plaza as complete and officially open to the public.

The Glen Burnie Farmers Market

Managed by AAEDC for the first time, the Glen Burnie Farmers Market returns to Glen Burnie Town Center (101 N. Crain Hwy) on Thursdays from June 12 to September 11 (except June 19), 4:00–7:00 PM.

The Market will feature local foods, goods, food trucks, and free parking at the Glen Burnie Garage (7480 B&A Blvd). It supports our agricultural program’s goal of connecting residents with local producers while advancing community placemaking efforts.

Rotary Park Public Art Mural

After issuing an RFQ and reviewing three finalists, AAEDC selected Annapolis native Comacell “Cell Spitfire” Brown Jr. to design and install a new mural on the two exterior walls of Rotary Park in Glen Burnie, Maryland.

The mural will be installed in June of 2025.

Glen Burnie Town Center Signage

One of our most visible projects at Glen Burnie Town Center is the installation of bold, colorful directional signs. These signs add energy to the space while helping locals and visitors easily find key landmarks and points of interest.

The Arundel Community Reinvestment (ACR) Fund

AAEDC has long supported the revitalization of Glen Burnie’s commercial districts through the Arundel Community Reinvestment (ACR) Fund. This program offers zero-interest loans up to $100,000 for exterior renovations and site improvements in designated Commercial Revitalization Districts, including Glen Burnie Town Center.

Additionally, we’re leveraging Maryland’s Project Restore funding to help activate vacant commercial properties in and around the Town Center, further boosting local economic activity.

Glen Burnie Town Center Progress Report

The annual Glen Burnie Town Center Progress Report highlights the work of AAEDC’s Town Center Revitalization Manager, Kayleigh De La Puente, in driving redevelopment and renewal efforts at the Glen Burnie Town Center.

Glen Burnie Town Center Revitalization Plan & Market Study

In 2021, the Office of Planning and Zoning collaborated with the Glen Burnie Revitalization Implementation Task Force and the planning firm Mahan Rykiel Associates to complete a market analysis and planning-level study of the Glen Burnie Town Center. Working with area stakeholders and several property owners, the team developed a concept plan for revitalization that provides a framework for the County and private-sector partners to guide planning, investments, and potential redevelopment in the area over the next ten years and beyond.
