Glen Burnie, MD (May 22, 2025) – The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) has selected Annapolis native Comacell “Cell Spitfire” Brown Jr. to design and install a new mural on the two exterior walls of Rotary Park in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
“We were thrilled that this opportunity generated great interest from the Anne Arundel County arts community, and we’re excited to bring Comacell’s talent to Rotary Park,” said AAEDC President and CEO Amy Gowan. “The beautification of the Park is a natural extension of our ongoing placemaking efforts to energize and beautify the Glen Burnie Town Center.”
Brown, a multidisciplinary artist who specializes in murals and graphic design, will begin the project in May and complete it in June. The public is encouraged to observe and follow the creation of the mural, which will be the 50th in Brown’s career and his 20th in Anne Arundel County.
“I can’t wait to make these empty walls bright and beautiful,” said Brown. “Every mural I work on is unique, and this one will stand out by not only celebrating Glen Burnie’s past but also looking to its future.”
AAEDC selected Brown through a competitive process that began with a Request for Qualifications in late 2024 and culminated in a review of proposals by a selection committee.
The mural is funded by a portion of a Community Legacy Grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. The grant also supports other initiatives in the Glen Burnie Town Center, including high-visibility signage and the upcoming Glen Burnie Better Plaza, which will launch with a two-day festival on June 6–7.
