Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation Unveils “Pathways to Connection” Mural at Rotary Park in Glen Burnie Town Center

November 10, 2025

Glen Burnie, MD (November 10, 2025) – The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) officially unveiled “Pathways to Connection,” a new mural by renowned artist Comacell “Cell Spitfire” Brown, Jr., during a community celebration held November 6 at Rotary Park in the Glen Burnie Town Center.

“This mural brings the vibrancy we needed for our revitalization efforts at the Glen Burnie Town Center,” said County Executive Steuart Pittman. “The community came together and decided what they wanted to see, and Comacell brought their vision of unity and connection to life in this beautiful mural for all to enjoy.”

The vibrant, large-scale mural marks the final part of a multi-tiered revitalization and placemaking project for Glen Burnie Town Center funded by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). Since 2023, AAEDC has led a coordinated effort to enhance the area’s visibility and vitality through new branding, street pole banners, wayfinding and parking signage, and other public space improvements including the temporary transformation of the Glen Burnie Town Center Plaza into “The Glen Burnie Better Plaza.”

“This mural is so much more than a work of art, it’s a reflection of what’s possible when partnerships, creativity, and community come together,” said Amy Gowan, President & CEO of AAEDC. Pathways to Connection beautifully captures Glen Burnie’s spirit, and we’re proud to showcase Comacell’s incredible artistry as part of our continued efforts to energize and inspire the Town Center.

The mural was selected through a community jury process that included local residents, business and property owners, community associations, and elected officials. Brown’s design celebrates unity, transformation, and the natural vibrancy of Glen Burnie. The walkways symbolize the intersection of journeys, mirroring the crossroads of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard and Crain Highway, while bright florals and hearts convey warmth, growth, and connection. A single butterfly represents transformation and hope, both for the park and for the community it serves.

“The unveiling of Pathways to Connection is a proud moment for Glen Burnie and a celebration of our community’s creativity and resilience. Rotary Park has always been a place where people come together, and now this mural reflects the very heart of our Town Center revitalization — creating spaces that inspire connection, spark conversation, and bring renewed energy to our downtown. This is one more step toward fulfilling the promise of Anne Arundel County,” said Anne Arundel County Councilwoman Allison Pickard, who represents District 2.

The unveiling ceremony held on November 6 featured remarks from AAEDC leadership, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day and Anne Arundel County Chief Administrative Officer Christine Anderson, and several elected officials including Councilwoman Pickard and Delegates Mark Chang, Mike Rogers, and Sandy Bartlett.

“Pathways to Connection is about bringing people together — through art, through collaboration, and through shared pride in our community,” said Brown. “My hope is that everyone who walks by this mural feels seen, inspired, and reminded that every one of us plays a role in shaping the path forward for Glen Burnie.”

Born and raised in Annapolis, Brown has completed more than 50 murals throughout Maryland, including 22 in Anne Arundel County. His work often reflects themes of empowerment, heritage, and collective pride.

The “Pathways to Connection” mural is the latest in a series of public art and placemaking projects led by AAEDC to strengthen the identity of Glen Burnie Town Center. Ongoing initiatives include the Glen Burnie Farmers Market, new gateway signage, and future public art installations supported by the Baltimore Community Foundation. The Town Center was also recently accepted into the Main Street Maryland Program, a milestone that positions the area for continued investment and long-term economic growth.
