Capital Gazette Reports on PwrQ Expansion in Anne Arundel County

February 12, 2025

The Capital Gazette published the following article shortly after Governor Wes Moore’s announced that PwrQ, an Anne Arundel County company that provides end-to-end power systems solutions to data center clients throughout the U.S., would be creating 160 new jobs and adding 155,000 square feet of space to its headquarters in Hanover:

Moore call convinced Maryland company to add 160 jobs, expand: CEO

The article focused on the many factors that motivated PwrQ to remain in and expand in Maryland, including:

  • a strong labor pool, thanks to apprentice programs through the Maryland Department of Labor and through the state’s refugee community;
  • financial assistance including a $780,000 conditional loan through the Maryland Department of Commerce’s Advantage Maryland economic development program, a $78,000 conditional, forgivable loan from Anne Arundel County, and potential state tax credits;
  • and a personal phone call from Governor Moore that PwrQ CEO Osman Ashai said made it clear that “Maryland is an up-and-coming neighborhood for data centers.”

The article included the following additional quote from Ashai:

“Data centers are going to be the railways and interstate highways of the future, to power AI and to power cloud computing. Maryland has to compete in this industry in the future. Maryland is still early in that but it’s growing quite rapidly.”

And the following quote from Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker:

“As the number of companies in the mid-Atlantic continues to grow, so does the need for increased power supply infrastructure and managed data centers.”
