A Thank You To Our Fearless Interim Leader

For 30 years Jill Seamon has quietly steered Anne Arundel Economic Development (AAEDC) behind the scenes in her role as Administrative Officer. Just as the COVID-19 pandemic hit and life as we all know it transitioned, Jill stepped up to lead the office through uncharted territories as the newly named interim CEO. During this time of crisis for many businesses, Jill’s leadership and knowledge helped impact the Anne Arundel community for the better. In just three months’ time Jill has:

• waived late fees and modified payments for business loan clients whose operations were disrupted by Coronavirus,
• signed a Joint Statement on Regional Collaboration among Maryland Capital Region Local Economic Development Organizations,
• implemented a number of technology improvements to ensure a seamless process for applicants applying for the Customer and Employee Protection (CEP) Grant,
  and, most notably,
• as of June 22, allocated more than $3.1 million in grant money since the beginning of June through the newly launched small business CEP Grant.

These are just a few of the statements that are eagerly shared when anyone asks about Jill Seamon. And they couldn’t be more true. As she steps back into her role as Administrative Officer to welcome Ben Birge as AAEDC’s new CEO effective July 1, her dedication to the AAEDC staff and the businesses in Anne Arundel County deserves praise.
