Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) is the principal supplier of gas and electricity for Central Maryland.  BGE services more than 1 million business and residential electric customers, and 600,000 gas customers covering a 2,300-square-mile territory in Central Maryland.  Maryland is now a deregulated state allowing electric suppliers to compete for your business.  For more information about selecting an electric supplier, visit the Electric Choice website.

Telecommunications

Anne Arundel County offers a state-of-the-art infrastructure and a competitive choice of providers.   Several communications providers serve the County, but Verizon Communications is the largest local carrier.  Verizon's "Intelligent Network" is among the most advanced in the country providing more than 3.7 million access lines; more than 95 percent of these lines are served by digital technology and switching offices are diversely linked by fiber-optic facilities.  Among the services Verizon provides is residential and commercial telephone lines, long distance, Internet access, DSL, advanced calling services, telephones and accessories, video service and more.  Other carriers in the area such as AT&T, Cingular Wireless, and Sprint Nextel Corporation provide a healthy competitive market.  For more information visit the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development's website.
