Trucking serves every community in Maryland. More than 12,000 Maryland companies have motor carriers registered, operating a fleet of 27,000 commercial vehicles. Nearly 76 million tons of freight are transported each year. Approximately 90 percent of all goods moved in Maryland move by truck, as do 75 percent of goods moving through the Port of Baltimore. Trucks play an important role in local drayage for shipments ultimately moved by rail. Port terminals are within minutes of I-95.
In the Washington-Baltimore area alone, there are 150 trucking companies and 100 trucking terminals. From central Maryland, businesses are within overnight reach of one-third of the nation's population and industrial base. For more information contact the Maryland Distribution Council.
