Annapolis, MD (June 1, 2005) - - -  County Executive Janet S. Owens today met with 18 Anne Arundel County business leaders as part of the quarterly CEO Rountable Program organized by the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation.  The meeting focused on Anne Arundel County's Gold Coast -- the area near BWI Airport that has become the center of defense and security technology.  The event was hosted by Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) in Hanover where they recently consolidated their Maryland operations and employ over 1,800 people.

 

Guest speaker was Dr. Howard Frank, Dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland College Park.  He emphasized that the School of Business would like to partner with Anne Arundel County in growing its homeland security, defense, and informatics businesses.  In an interactive discussion, he also highlighted that the School of Business has a growing international presence in Switzerland and China that could help with County Executive Owens' effort to strengthen international business development in the county.
 

Steve Walker, president of Steve Walker & Associates, a venture capitalist management company, spoke about the branding of the region as the home of the largest concentration of informatics companies in the world.  Many of these companies, such as NSA, Northrop Grumman, CSC, SAIC, Titan Corporation, and others, are located in Anne Arundel County.  Informatics is the technological ability to quickly extract specific information from large amounts of data. 

 

"Listening to the issues and concerns of our industry leaders continues to be a priority for me" Ms. Owens said. "This meeting brought together companies who are at the forefront of Anne Arundel County’s tremendous technology growth."
