Agreement Will Strengthen Cooperation Between Jurisdictions
Annapolis (January 11, 2005) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens and Yasmin Shoman, Deputy Mayor of the City of Belize, will sign a Friendship Agreement during a luncheon Saturday in Annapolis. The pact will unite the two jurisdictions in their efforts to promote economic development opportunities.
"This Agreement will join our regions together in resolving to promote cooperation and exchanges our areas of mutual interest," Ms. Owens said. "We will work together in the areas of commerce, small business, education, tourism, culture, the arts and the environment to improve our economic prosperity, employment opportunities and overall quality of life."
The Agreement will strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding between the two regions through special diplomatic assignments, establishing direct contacts between the regional counterparts, organizing business delegations and goodwill ambassadors.
Anne Arundel County enjoys similar agreements with jurisdictions in Ireland, Ghana and China.
