Grand Opening Event Scheduled for The Centre at Glen Burnie Farmers’ Market

ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 5, 2007) - - County Executive John R. Leopold will officially open the Farmers’ Market at the Centre at Glen Burnie during a ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, July 18th at 11:00 AM.   The market is located in the parking area next to the main entrance of the Centre (6711 Ritchie Highway).
 
County Executive Leopold will provide a brief overview of Farmer’s Markets in Anne Arundel County.  Other speakers include Phillip Ross, president of Petrie Ross Ventures, Joan Schultz, Maryland Department of Agriculture, and Lisa Barge, Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation.  Following the opening ceremony, activities for the whole family will include Balloons by Ms. Blossom, a strolling bluegrass/country music duo, classic cars and free snow cones. Pit beef sandwiches will also be for sale during the event. The market will be open until 1:00 p.m. and will continue to be open from 10:00a.m.to 1:00p.m. every Wednesday through September 26th.
 
Agricultural exhibits will be set up by the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation, the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission and the Maryland Cooperative Extension’s Office of Nutrition.  The Centre at Glen Burnie will also have an exhibit at the event where discount coupons and fliers will be given away.
 
A representative from the Cooperative Extensions Master Gardeners program will be on-site to answer any gardening questions you may have.  There will be a drawing for a free basket of produce and educational “AG BAG” at the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation exhibit.
