Chesapeake Bay Candle to Celebrate Grand Opening of the Company’s First Domestic Factory on June 28, 2011

Rockville, MD (May 25, 2011) – Pacific Trade International, the integrated global marketer of candles, home fragrance, and home décor products and the company behind the Chesapeake Bay Candle brand, announces the grand opening of its first domestic factory in Glen Burnie, Maryland on June 28, 2011.

After searching the world over, Chesapeake Bay Candle is finding the way home. Inspired by the serene beauty of Maryland’s idyllic shoreline, husband-and-wife-team Mei Xu and David Wang started the business in their home in Annapolis, Maryland in 1994. From the very beginning, Chesapeake Bay Candle followed its mission to work with a passionate global team to develop candles and home fragrances enhancing life’s every occasion and creating beautiful memories.

More than sixteen years after everything started, Chesapeake Bay Candle is proud to open its first domestic factory where our dreams were born: the beautiful state of Maryland. The factory in Maryland’s Anne Arundel County is the company’s fourth manufacturing facility and the first in the United States. Equipped with a state-of-the art research and development center and laboratories for fragrance evaluation, fragrance stability testing, and burn testing, the factory will produce an extensive range of filled vessel candles through standardized, automated production. With over 125,000 square feet of space, the facility will also house a warehouse and operate a distribution center.

“We made the decision to open this factory in October 2009 because we felt it was time to connect the creativity of our Rockville, Maryland based design and sales headquarters with a manufacturing facility nearby – despite the uncertainties of the economy and the ever-changing retail landscape”, said Mei Xu, President and Co-Owner of Chesapeake Bay Candle. “We look forward to building new partnerships with retailers that have a demand for stylish, nature-inspired home fragrances that excite the consumer. The new facility in Glen Burnie will enable us to respond quickly to retailer and consumer desires and needs. My personal goal is to be able to provide our brand partners with what they want, when they want it. Today’s consumers are smart shoppers that demand instant gratification. They will not wait if a product is out of stock. Candles are about passion, and passion cannot wait.”

“Anne Arundel County provided zoning and permitting assistance to Chesapeake Bay Candle Company as they moved forward with their Glen Burnie location,” said Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold.  “I congratulate Chesapeake Bay Candles on their opening and I am pleased to welcome their first U.S. facility to Anne Arundel County.”

“Chesapeake Bay Candle’s strategic decision to locate in Anne Arundel County makes good business sense,” said Robert L. Hannon, President and CEO of the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation. “Manufacturing companies are especially welcome because they provide a multiplier effect in terms of jobs for our citizens. Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation has assisted Chesapeake Bay Candles from the beginning and we will continue to work with them as they grow this new facility.”

Pacific Trade International and Chesapeake Bay Candle home fragrance products are available through leading retailers including Target, Kohl’s, Hallmark, Bed Bath & Beyond and numerous others.
