CDI MARINE COMPANY BAND LAVIS DIVISION CONSOLIDATES AND LOCATES IN GLEN BURNIE

 

ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 8, 2011) - - - The Band Lavis Division of CDI Marine, www.cdi-gs.com, has consolidated its offices and R&D facility at the Aviation Business Park in Glen Burnie.  CDI, an Anne Arundel County, MD company for 34 years, supports government and commercial clients worldwide with design, engineering, and logistics solutions for high-speed marine vessels. The expansion and consolidation from Severna Park to Glen Burnie allows CDI to have the engineering office, R&D Shop and Special Projects Shop all under one roof.

 

Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold said “CDI’s ability to apply their expertise to market demands has made them a successful company.  The continued growth of the defense industry in Anne Arundel County puts CDI in a strategic location for continued growth.”

 

CDI has added 6 new jobs to the existing 50 with the opening of their new 14,674 sf facility. An additional 8 jobs are planned during the next 12 to 18 months.  Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation, www.aaedc.org, worked with CDI during their location search and continues to provide assistance as the company grows.

 

David Lavis, Band Lavis Co-Founder and General Manager said, “The future looks bright for the Band Lavis Division of CDI Marine. Our new, more efficient facilities and significantly broader capabilities are split between seven technical departments.  This, combined with a healthy backlog of business, good financial performance and competitive rates, along with the ability to do larger contracts for a more diversified customer-base makes for a continual increase in job openings and revenues in our future short-term plans.”

 

COMPANY BACKGROUND:
The Band Lavis Division of the CDI Marine Company (CDIM-BLD) was founded in 1977 by Bill Band, Dave Lavis and Shirley Wilson as Band, Lavis and Associates (BLA) Inc. For the first 6 months we were located in Annapolis and then moved to Severna Park where we stayed for over 32 years until our recent move to expand into a larger facility in Glen Burnie near the BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. This allowed us to have our engineering office, our R&D Shop and Special Projects Shop all under one roof that we refer to as the CDI Center of Excellence for High-Speed Craft.

 

In 1997, BLA was purchased by CDI Marine and, being part of CDI, provided our staff of naval architects and marine engineers with offices nation-wide and a much larger staff of designers, engineers, technicians and CAD operators to support large engineering projects. We now provide, testing, model making, numerical simulation, marine propeller and water jet design, chemical/biological detection & remediation, ocean thermal energy conversion and marine vessel acquisition support. We have, for example, helped the Fire Departments of Annapolis MD, Baltimore MD, Woodbridge VA and currently Ocean City MD & Chicago IL acquire new fireboats.
