ANNE ARUNDEL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION AND STATE SUPPORT CYBERSECURITY WORKFORCE TRAINING FOR RAYTHEON

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (August 16, 2010) –
To help support Raytheon Company’s, www.raytheon.com, cybersecurity training, the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC), www.aaedc.org, has approved two workforce training agreements totaling $110,000 to help train 59 employees, with a third agreement planned for the near future. The State of Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development is providing up to an additional $50,000 in workforce training assistance.

Raytheon is actively hiring and expanding its office space in Maryland, planning to nearly double its personnel in the state by December 2010. The company has signed a lease for 20,000 square feet at the National Business Park in Annapolis Junction, Md., in Anne Arundel County to accommodate the addition of 200 new jobs.

“The need for skilled cybersecurity personnel is crucial and continues to grow,” said Steve Hawkins, vice president of Raytheon’s Information Security Solutions business. “We appreciate the support of the Anne Arundel EDC and the State of Maryland for these grants to help train the workforce of the future.”

Raytheon’s rapidly expanding cybersecurity business leverages more than 30 years of experience protecting government organizations and enterprises from the most complex cybersecurity threats.

“Raytheon’s business growth has created the need for additional space and training assistance for current and future employees,” said Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold.  “Working with our partners at the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, we are combining resources to create jobs and grow one of our leading businesses.”

“Some 50,000 new computer attacks emerge every day, threatening our country, our commerce, our companies and our families,” said Christian S. Johansson, secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. “We launched our CyberMaryland initiative to address the urgent need to protect our digital infrastructure and to position the State as the nation’s epicenter for cyber security. We’re pleased to support Raytheon’s efforts to maintain the security of computer networks and to build on the already enviable information technology assets that call Maryland home.”
