Impact of 2005 BRAC

Only initial estimates are currently available, and this website will be updated as information is confirmed. The most recent and comprehensive findings to date are reported in the latest draft of BRAC Activities Affecting Aberdeen Proving Ground, Andrews Air Force Base, Bethesda Naval Hospital, and Fort Meade and in the State of Maryland.

Impact of BRAC 2005 on our region

The 2005 BRAC decision to consolidate key research and high-technology jobs to this region will have a tremendous economic impact on our economy.  Over the course of the next six years, our region is projected to gain up to 33,000 new jobs.  The influx of these jobs should bring enormous growth for our region – and opportunities for our existing business base.

AAEDC Role

In June 2006, we launched a national image building and marketing campaign with the first of many educational open houses.  Focused on the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), we provided a regional presentation and held an informational fair for employees to learn more about living, working and discovering all that our region has to offer.  More than 800 employees attended.   In September, we held a second open house, reaching an additional 800 employees.

AAEDC is involved in the Anne Arundel County/Fort George G. Meade Growth Management Committee and the Howard County BRAC Task Force, both of which are charged with ensuring a smooth and coordinated response as it relates to BRAC activities.
