Pledge to eat at least one item produced by a local farm every day during Buy Local Week July 20 through 28.

In Anne Arundel County, the Buy Local Challenge will be promoted the entire month of July at the Westfield Annapolis Farmers' Market.  The month includes cooking demonstrations every Sunday at the market featuring local chefs who will prepare and sample dishes featuring ingredients from local farms.  Participants include:

  •  July 7: Chef James Barrett of The Westin Annapolis
  • July 14: Sharon New of the Local Food Beat
  • July 21: Chef James Barrett of The Westin Annapolis
  • July 29: Chef Mike Archibald of Herrington on the Bay

The Westfield Annapolis Farmers' Market is a producer-only market;  That means visitors will meet the farmer that grew or produced the food being purchased.  Approximately 15 vendors will be on hand to sell a variety of products including milk, butter, yogurt, eggs, beef, chicken, lamb, pork, jams, coffee, Asian inspired baked goods, wood products, seasonal produce, olives and olive oil, wood, potter and hand knitted items.

Anne Arundel County also has six other Farmers' Market locations where Buy Local Challenge participants can shop to help fulfill the pledge.

The Buy Local Challenge is a program of the Southern Maryland Agriculture Development Commission (SMADC).  For more information on the program, please visit the Buy Local Challenge website.
